Celebrated author Amitav Ghosh appeared on the Rediff Chat last week and interacted with his readers from all over.
Ghosh's latest book Sea of Poppies, a historical novel set around the opium wars of the 19th century, has been received with critical acclaim in the literary world.

Deepti asked, Your books are written in the form of an epic, spanning generations. What is the reason behind it?
AMITAV GHOSH answers, Several of my books are family stories - this is why they span generations.

jibak asked, Please tell me how have you inspired to write this book i.e sea of popies. Please also in a nutshell about the theme of your writing.

AMITAV GHOSH answers, I one of my books I wrote about the Indians who were taken to Burma as indentured workers. I found their history fascinating and wanted to explore it further. That is how this book started.
