Bengal's Misery

July 24, 2008
Call it diversity or paradox. While one side of the country is struggling with floods, the other side does not have a drop of water to drink. While the north-eastern parts are wading in neck-deep floods, places like Hyderabad are reeling under a severe drought. Pictures tell the story. Take a look.

A scene(see the picture) from West Midnapore in West Bengal. Here a villager is seen catching fish from the river 'Keleghai', after it flooded hundreds of villages. The death toll in flood-related incidents have crossed 50 with hundreds of villages cut off and an estimated four million people displaced, officials said. Bridges were washed away and roads and railway tracks submerged by the swirling waters.
