'In their hearts they know that the deal is good for the country'

July 21, 2008
M Srinivas Raju, 36, is an educationist working in Hyderabad. He unequivocally supports the nuclear deal and the Manmohan Singh's government's stance and is disappointed with what he feels is the Opposition's dishonest stand.

"What Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has done is good for the country. The nuclear deal is for the development and prosperity of the country. It will benefit the poor ultimately. It will reduce the country's dependence on oil, bring down the energy cost, control inflation and finally reduce the prices of essential commodities."

"At the moment we are facing a shortage of power. If nuclear energy is available we will be able to overcome this problem and will also be meeting the future energy needs of the country.

"The common people, especially the farmers, should be made aware of these issues. The media has an important role."

"The opposition to the nuclear deal by other parties is for political reasons. In their hearts they know that the deal is good for the country but they are opposing it because they are afraid the credit will go to the UPA and the Congress and they will lose popularity.

"They should have supported the deal. Even a distinguished person like Dr A P J Abdul Kalam is supporting it."

"If the BJP was in power (when this deal came up) and Vajpayee the prime minister he would have also signed the deal."
