'Why do you Indians come here?'

July 16, 2008
"Why do you Indians come here and work? Go back and never return." Naeem Sarang's abductors told him this during his 27 days in captivity in Afghanistan.

Sarang, an electrical engineer from Mangalore, Karnataka, and a Nepali colleague K B Gurung were abducted and only rescued by the Afghan police in May.

He says he has only God to thank for his release. "I have not recovered completely as yet. My mind is fine, but my legs are still weak," he adds.

Sarang, 39, joined HEB International Logistics and was based in Afghanistan for six years. He told Vicky Nanjappa about captivity and the situation in Afghanistan. A first person account, exclusive to rediff.com
