Eat lunch at 1 pm, sleep till 4 pm

July 2, 2008
The village clerk added that the workers ate lunch at 1 pm, slept till 4 pm and then left. "As far as they are concerned that is enough as they come here at 9 am," the clerk added.

The task before the villagers was to dig a huge lake, possibly to store rainwater. In this part of the state, it will be a major help in agriculture.

The villagers were divided into lots of four, five or 10 depending on their friends or family group.

What was striking was the number of old women working in the heat. They are unlikely to be employed anywhere else for Rs 80. Naturally, given their health and the heat, they could not finish the work allotted. Hence the pay cut.
