The National Council of India Culture, Trinidad and Tobago, also received the award, the only organisation to be honoured at the event.
"I call on the overseas Indian community to engage proactively in contributing to the growth of India," Patil said after giving away the awards.
She asked the community to make most of schemes like Overseas Citizenship of India, the newly-established Overseas Indian Facilitation Centre and the soon to be established
India Development Foundation.
