Pravasi Bharatiya Divas remembers NRI freedom-fighters

January 09, 2008

Pravasi Bharatiya Divas aims at bringing NRIs from across the world together, but this programme is incomplete unless the great Indian freedom movement is spoken about.

The 6th edition of the PBD had something different in store. A stall at Vigyan Bhavan, where the event is being held, attracted may NRIs throughout the day. The Freedom Movement Memorial Committee has put up a unique set of pictures of Persons of Indian Origin who returned to the country to participate in the freedom struggle. Bhag Singh, Ram Rakha, Bholanath Chatterjee, Pundit Kanshi Ram, to name just a few.

All these persons were sent out of the country forcibly by the British as indentured labour. But all of them escaped from foreign lands and returned to India to participate in the freedom movement.
