Musharraf, however, refused to resign and said that he was reday to work with a prime minister from the opposition party.
"We have to move forward in a way that we bring about a stable democratic government to Pakistan," he said, adding that he was prepared to work with former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
Meanwhile, the celebrations by the supporters of the PPP and the PML-N continued across Pakistan on Wednesday.
