'Pakistan has violated UN coventions'

December 13, 2008
The Overseas Friends of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday urged the United Nations Security Council to impose sanctions on Pakistan till Islamabad stops encouraging terrorists on its soil to strike against India.

In a memorandum to the United Nations Security Council and Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, following a brief demonstration outside the UN headquarters in New York, OFBJP said the terror attacks against India point to the fact that Pakistan harbours terrorists.

It said that all countries that have been victims of terrorism have discovered that Pakistan has failed miserably in curbing the menace. "Pakistan is a member of the United Nations and it has violated UN conventions by allowing the use of land and sea routes for launching terrorist attacks against India. The failure of a member state to eradicate such a menace should be a matter of concern for all peace loving people of the world," it said.

"In the face of overwhelming evidence related to the culpability of Pakistan, we believe the UN should take stronger steps (against Pakistan) than pay just lip service to the fight against terrorism exported from the Pakistani soil," it said.
