How a few cops and staff saved hundreds at the Taj

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone I, Vishwas Nangre Patil got a call from an Additional Commissioner of Police at 2140 (9.40 pm) on November 26 about the attack on Taj Hotel by terrorists. Here is a sequence of events that shows how the courage and bravery of a few Mumbai policemen, State Reserved Police Force constables armed with service pistols and two self loading rifles and the security and management of Taj Hotel helped save hundreds of guests in the Taj Hotel and Taj Tower when the terrorists struck.

2140: DCP Zone-I Vishwas Nangre Patil received a message from an Additional Commissioner of Police about the terror attack on the Taj Hotel.

2155: Patil reached Taj with police constable Amit Khetale and entered from rear side with Taj security chief Sunil Kudiyadi. Reached the 2nd floor and fired three rounds from his service Glock Pistol on three terrorists assembled on the staircase on the 3rd floor of the old Taj of which one hit on the leg of one of the three terrorists. Terrorists retaliated with AK-47 burst towards them. The cops took cover near a wall.
