On the campaign trail in Karnataka

April 28, 2008
Krishna managed to pull crowds at various places and his mantra was stability. He said that he was sure that the Congress would come to power with an absolute majority and it was the only party, which was capable of providing stability and also focusing on development.

Krishna during the campaign also ruled out any sort of a secret pact with any of the parties, including the Samajwadi Party which is headed by former chief minister S Bangarappa in Karnataka. On inflation, Krishna said that the issue would be sorted out by the Congress at the Centre.

The Congress is expected to rope in Sonia Gandhi and her daughter Priyanka Vadra shortly for the Karnataka campaign. The Congress hopes to woo women votes through the mother-daughter duo. However, the party had not made it clear as to where they would campaign in Karnataka.

The BJP, which is relying heavily on the services of Narendra Modi targeted, the Congress and its policies at the Centre.

Modi addressed rallies at Mangalore and the surrounding areas of coastal Karnataka, which incidentally is a strong hold of the BJP.

He spoke at length about the inflation rate and how the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance had failed to resolve this issue.

He took at dig at Prime Ministe Manmohan Singh who had said during the Dr Haneef Mohammed issue that he could not sleep at night.

Modi asked how the prime minister is now sleeping peacefully when the prices of commodities are rising every day.
