Pak govt welcomes militant commander's ceasefire

April 25, 2008
Pakistan's top Interior Ministry official Rehman Malik has welcomed the ceasefire order given by an Al Qaeda-linked militant commander.

The commander of Tehrik-e-Taliban, Baitullah Mehsud, has ordered his followers to stop attacks in Pakistan after the new government began peace talks.

With talks underway, Mehsud, accused of organising the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in December, has put out word to his followers to cease attacks in Pakistan.
