Transgenders marry deities in Tamil Nadu village

April 23, 2008
For many, the idea of marriage commonly suggests a union between two humans. But there are some villages in Tamil Nadu where marriages take place between a human and a deity.

This week-long festival culminates at the Koothandavar Temple, where transgenders offer themselves in marriage to local deities.
