Anti-China protests echo in J&K

April 17, 2008
In the cold desert region of Ladakh, a complete protest shutdown was observed on Thursday in the Buddhist majority Leh town.

The local Buddhist association had called for the shutdown to express solidarity with the Tibetans. The protest strike coincided with Thursday's Olympic torch relay in New Delhi.

A rally was also held in the town where speakers condemned the Chinese excesses on Tibetans. A statement issued by the settlers said, "The Chinese government considers all Tibetans as enemies of China. This is evident through their widely-used slogans 'you live and I die' and 'us and our enemies'."
