Protests greet Olympic torch in US
April 09, 2008
A large number of protestors gathered near the City Hall and demanded that China stop its crackdown against the pro-independence demonstrations in Tibet. The protestors were apprehensive that the torch relay through Tibet would lead to more violence in the area.
The demonstrators then marched to the Chinese Consulate.
Actor Richard Gere and Archbishop Desmond Tutu were among the speakers at the daylong protests staged by the Tibetan activists, which ended with a peace vigil.
