Bhutto's husband Asif Ali Zardari stayed back in Dubai. She arrived in Karachi with her London-based younger sister Sanam, two nephews, several close friends, party workers and a large media contingent.
With the general elections in the country scheduled to take place in the first half of January next year, she hopes to campaign for her Pakistan People's Party in the poll.
Earlier, Bhutto had told reporters at the Dubai airport, "I am going home with a message of change and hope for a better future for democracy, and I hope that this moment for democracy succeeds... I am a leader of the poor. I will live and die with the poor."
