The Nandigram fire is soon spreading to other parts of West Bengal. It was Kolkata's turn on Wednesday to witness violence.
The army was called in to control the violence in the city after mobs attacked the police and torched vehicles during a three-hour shutdown by the All India Minority Forum to protest against the Nandigram turmoil. The forum also demanded the expulsion of controversial Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen.
Kolkata Commissioner of Police Gautam Mohan Chakraborty said a curfew will be imposed in violence-hit areas of central Kolkata from 10 pm to 6 am.
