On Wednesday, former Pakistan prime minister Benazir Bhutto asked President Pervez Musharraf to resign immediately. This is the first time Bhutto has asked for Musharraf's resignation since her return to Pakistan after eight years of self-imposed exile.
She also signalled there was no possibility of finalising a power-sharing deal with the General.
The Pakistan government retaliated by putting Bhutto under seven-day house arrest, which they claimed was for the 'safety' of the Pakistan Peoples Party leader.
Bhutto also expressed her willingness to join forces with former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and other political groups to restore democracy in Pakistan.
