150 years on, a historical march to Delhi
May 8, 2007
Payal Chetvi, a college student from Namchi, Sikkim, adds, "These fighters have given us our lives. We are free to walk across India today because they revolted against the British. My friends and I feel proud to be part of this walk celebrating our first war of independence."
Like Sumanthi and Payal, thousands of Indian youth assembled in Meerut for a five-day journey to New Delhi, paying homage to those who died fighting the British army. The walk has been organized by Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, which has brought youth from across the country to celebrate 150 years of the great Sepoy Mutiny.
