But for David Kino's (centre in the picture) heroism, Rasham Natung of Arunachal Pradesh would not have lived.
Natung had fallen into the Kameng river, which was in spate. He was clinging onto a boulder and hoping to god someone would hear his pleas for help.
Luckily for Natung, Kino, a class X student, did. Not caring for his own safety, Kino swam up the river to reach Natung. By that time a crowd had gathered on the banks. Kino asked the villagers to throw a big rope and a tube filled with air.
"I put Rasham Natung in the tube and pulled him till the others could join me in the rescue operation," says Kino, as he poses for a picture with his proud father (right).
