Ardh Kumbh: When sins get washed away

Devotees take a holy bath and offer prayers at the Sangam, the confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna and Saraswati rivers in Allahabad, January 14 on the eve of Makar Sankranti on January 14. Lakhs of devotees and sadhus are taking part in the largest religious congregation of the world.

The mela lasts 45 days and commemorates a mythical battle between gods and demons over a pitcher of the nectar of immortality.
