Meanwhile, the Central government claimed it had 'sufficient information' about the perpetrators of the deadly blasts but declined to identify them fearing misuse.
"No names should be hastily concluded," Home Minister Shivraj Patil said to repeated queries from reporters as to who were behind the incident.
He said "We have sufficient information. But we are not going to reveal it now as it may be misused to hamper the investigation."
Railway Minister Lalu Prasad said, "On the basis of information given by eyewitnesses, one person who was present in one of the two coaches that caught fire has been detained."
He said eye-witnesses, including one of the injured, a Pakistani national Rana Shaukat Ali, had told him when he visited Panipat that two suspicious-looking persons were sitting in the coach with their faces hidden behind mufflers.
