Mr Claus goes sailing in Oz
December 21, 2007
Across the world through nearly 180 degrees, Australians, as well as New Zealanders, welcome Christmas earlier than most of the rest of the world with surfing and summer rites.
Wethinks this Santa sailing near Sydney harbour Bridge must be awfully hot.
Apparently the first Australian Christmas was celebrated in 1788 at Sydney by the governor of this penal colony. The celebration, it is documented, made little difference to the other white occupants of this island, the convicts, who did not get any extra rations even.
