Krishna Bose, inset, had no time to breathe. Subhas Chandra Bose's niece-in-law was busy sprucing up the Netaji Bhavan in Kolkata, Netaji's ancestral home. On January 23, 1947, Netaji's older brother Sarat Chandra Bose dedicated the building to the nation.

The Netaji Museum, established in Kolkata in 1961 by the Netaji Research Bureau, is a storehouse of inspiration that attracts thousands of visitors round the year.

With its traditional pillars and porticos, the building stands tall, a throwback to another era when freedom was a dream, a goal worthy of supreme sacrifice. A marble plaque says the house belonged to Janaki Nath Bose, Netaji's father.
