It is a rickety wooden stage, and one wonders if all those Special Protection Group men on it aren't likely to make it capsize. Priyanka stands in the middle, a few steps away from the microphone, right in the centre of the pack yet seeming almost shyly reluctant to take the spotlight.
It is, however, inevitably hers. The audience is ogling her with unbridled glee, and the few rows of little kids at the very front of the queue feature one or two with cellphone cameras, trying their best to get a vantage point shot of the Congress leader. And nobody seems to be looking at contesting Congress candidate Raja Ram Tyagi.
The people surrounding Priyanka create a self-important hubbub, smugly sharing the dais with the lady, each taking a few lines to talk about themselves before getting to her.
Finally, she graciously comes forward, her eyes flash brightly at the kids in row one, and she checks her speech and clears her throat to speak.
