Sonia Gandhi addressed a public rally in Thakurdwara in Moradabad district of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday. This area goes to the polls on April 18 for the 3rd phase of the 7 phase elections in this state.

Thakurdwara is 40 km from the Corbett National Park and 50 km from Moradabad city. The public rally was held in an open ground where the Congress had put up a stage.

There were big banners of Rajeev Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi along with smaller pictures of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Priyanka Gandhi, Salman Khursheed among others. Volunteers were giving cold water to the public as it was very hot.

A crowd of a little over 5,000 people waited for her. There were very few women. The majority of the crowd comprised of Muslims with a few farmers representing Mahendra Singh Tikait who is an ally of the Congress in this election. The farmers wore green caps to identify themselves.
