Traders' anger spills on to Delhi streets

November 7, 2006
A day after the Supreme Court ordered the Delhi civic authorities to resume sealing of unauthorised business establishments, the national capital resembled a war zone.

Agitated traders hit the streets and stoned city buses and clashed with the police. As the traders went on a rampage, destroying anything in sight, the police resorted to lathicharge and teargas.

Besides damaging over half-a-dozen city buses, angry crowds broke the windowpanes of a police vehicle, which was transporting some protestors who were detained from Mayur Vihar in East Delhi. Such violent protests were also reported from Rohini, Paharganj and Green Park.
