When politicians come to visit

July 13, 2006
The third patient is 35-year-old Rajaram Chauhan who lives at Charkop in Kandivali, northwest Mumbai, and works as a security guard. He was recently transferred to Santacruz, also in northwest Mumbai, and left home early on Tuesday to visit a fellow guard who was ill.

Chauhan was on the platform at Borivali station when the compartment in front of him blew up. A piece of metal flew towards him, severing his leg. He didn't realise what had happened until he saw blood all over him and couldn't feel anything.

He soon lost consciousness. People picked him up and brought him to the hospital. When he awoke, he called his brother.

Chauhan's wife Megha can't control her tears. His older brother Chandrakant is worried about his future. He will have to stay home for at least six months, but then what? How will he get another job? He asks if I can help in any way, adding that Chauhan has passed his Class 12 and is very efficient.
