Men around the world ought to get down on their knees and thank Louis Reard and Jacques Heim.
If it weren't for the two Frenchmen, and what they created in 1946, the world wouldn't be half as colourful as it is today.
Women around the world ought to thank them too, considering they received an astonishingly powerful weapon with which to drive men crazy.
Eleven years after the bikini was unveiled, Modern Girl magazine wrote: 'It is hardly necessary to waste words over the so-called bikini since it is inconceivable that any girl with tact and decency would ever wear such a thing.'
Six decades on, women reportedly spend over $8 billion (Rs 360 billion) annually on the little pieces of clothing.
