Indo-US N-deal: Sealed, Signed

December 18, 2006
United States President George W Bush has signed the legislation that will allow civilian nuclear trade with India, putting an end to New Delhi's three-decade old nuclear isolation.

Signing the Henry J Hyde India-US Peaceful Energy Act at a special White House ceremony, Bush said the agreement was an evidence of growing bonds of trust between the two countries and will strengthen bilateral relations.

"It is an important achievement for the whole world. After 30 years outside the system, India will now operate its civilian nuclear energy programme under internationally-accepted guidelines and the world is going to be safer," he said.
