When rains brought misery

August 9, 2006
The flood situation in Gujarat is grim.

More than 1.90 lakh people have been evacuated from different parts of south Gujarat, including Surat city, as major rivers are flowing above the danger mark.

Eighty per cent of Surat is submerged under water and the situation is expected to worsen as the administration has released over 10 lakh cusecs of water from Ukai dam, said Gujarat Agriculture Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, who was camping on the outskirts of Surat.
