People's Day in Nepal
The Vijay Juloos, which started from G P Koirala's home, was joined by tousands of people. Koirala, the prime minister-designate is 83 years old and quite sick. Even now, he remains on oxygen for more than seven hours everyday. He is unable to stand for too long.
But he is quite ambitious and some joke that like P V Narsimha Rao of India he will also gain good health after gaining power. But Koirala and all political leaders are in an unenviable postion. Now they will be closely wated by the people.
Asha Chaturvedi and Seeta Khadka, (picture left) are two vocal leaders in the crowd. Seeta Khadka told rediff.com, "Janta ke samne Raja ko jhukna pada (The King had to bow before the people). Our country is poor but we are now enlightened!" she says, "We have made the impossible possible. The Kings refused to give up power but we were determined. We were suffering because of the Maoists so we decided to fight till the finish. If the King can't give us peace, then let us help Maoists enter politics so that our harrassment will end.."
She warned, "Politcal parties will be on their toes. The poeple are watching them."
When asked how she can trust Maoists who have killed mercilessly, she said with confidence, "You can't ignore the truth of the Maoists presence in our country. They are a deep wound on Nepal. How can you be healthy if you ignore your wounds?"
She added, "Don't forget 40 percent of the people are suporters are Maoists. Women won't join them for nothing."
She said, "Don't worry. Today we have got the key to a life of peace and security. Open the door and rush inside."
