Goodbye to the Lord

Marking an end to a 10-day festival, Lord Ganesha finally departed from homes and pandals on Saturday.

In Mumbai, people were seen taking idols of various shapes and sizes for immersion since early morning.

The roads were flooded with throngs of people and idols lined up one after the other.

The police had made elaborate security arrangements, especially after the Supreme Court-ordered loudspeaker ban after 10 pm.

Mumbai had a peaceful immersion of its favourite deity as idols of over 8,200 public mandals(committees) at about 80 visarjan (immersion) points in the city went-off smoothly.

With cries of Pudchya varshi lavkar yaa and Ganpati Bappa Morya, Mumbai bid farewell to its favourite God.

Rediff.com photographer Jewella Miranda captured the farewell on camera.
