Water, water...everywhere

Though many people preferred to sit at home rather than shop when it poured, some did venture out. And were knee deep in water, as the picture shows.

Until last year, it seemed as Chennai's city planners had not heard of storm water drains. Things are changing, however, and most of the residential areas, especially in south Chennai, have improved drainage systems.
