A hard rain still pummels India

The flood situation in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka is still grim as torrential rains set off by the northeast monsoon continue to batter parts of South India.

In Tamil Nadu, Krishnagiri, Erode, Namakkal and Salem are among the worst hit districts.

More than 30,000 people have been evacuated from low-lying areas near the Cauvery and other rivers, and 1,500 people are marooned in Kiraramanallur village in Perambalur district.
