Pushkar houses a sacred lake and the only Brahma (Hindu god of creation) temple in the world.

A fascinating part of the festivities is the annual cattle fair, where livestock is traded, and the famous camel fair. Hundreds of camel traders and buyers travel for miles to come to Pushkar. Over 25,000 camels are traded, making it the world's largest camel fair.

Camels, among the most important animals in the desert economy, often do not have access to medical aid because villagers in remote areas don't take the time out to get their animals treated. Interestingly, at this year's fair, the government (www.rajasthantourism.gov.in) set up free medical camp for camels.
