US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was in India on March 16, Wednesday, as part of her six-nation South and East Asia tour.

Her maiden visit to India was intended to strengthen ties between India and the United States.

Coming soon after she assumed office in January, the visit is seen as the US's acknowledgement of India's growing presence in the global scene.
