It was a cool day. The kind Mumbai sees rarely. Maharashtra Governor Somanahalli Mallaiah Krishna's finely cut jacket fluttered in the sea breeze on the lawns of Raj Bhavan. As he patiently posed for photographs by the tree, by the fountain, on the bench -- one could not help wonder what the man was doing here.

Isn't this the man who till last year was the toast of India's booming IT industry? Isn't this the man who gave Karnataka a stable government and began to transform Bangalore through a credible public-private initiative? What is he doing at Raj Bhavan, the refuge of politicians put out to pasture?

rediff.com Managing Editor Saisuresh Sivaswamy and News Editor Pankaj Upadhyaya posed these and other questions to Governor Krishna recently.
