Guess who was sitting just across from where I grabbed a seat?
The second most powerful woman in the world.
Condoleezza Rice wore a lime green dress, and was immaculately turned out.
Arriving in the East Room a few minutes before Dr Singh and President Bush arrived, she turned to us and apologized for the hot weather that accompanied the welcome ceremony on Monday morning.
"Mr Singh (Foreign Minister K Natwar Singh) says he wants me to visit Delhi in June (when temperatures hover around 45 degrees)," she laughed.
She has a steely no-nonsense reputation, but I discovered a pleasant lady who paused to cheerfully sign an autograph for me, even as Natwar Singh flashed what I thought was a withering look, the sort he reserves for fools who he is not known to suffer kindly.
