Tsunamis: Picking Up the Threads

Civic workers set ablaze debris in a devastated fishing village at Velankanni, 370 kilometres south of Chennai, Tamil Nadu on January 3, 2005.

The official toll, as stated by the Union home ministry is 9,000-odd, but several thousands are still listed as missing and are feared dead.

Relief operations are in full swing and affected people have begun picking up the threads of their shattered lives.
