Why?
We have done thousands of takeoffs and landings in our life but this journey was different in the sense that here, there was no airstrip. All that one could see was vast stretches of icebergs.
We were anxious because we knew that if the plane slipped on the ice, we had it. Everybody held his breath as the plane headed for touchdown.
It was a bit frightening. Fortunately for us, the landing was smooth and we were delighted to be there.
What were the conditions like?
When we landed everything was covered with ice. The horizon was only a sheet of white snow. Though the wind was not very strong, one could feel the snow drifting under one's feet. The velocity of the wind was moving the snow.
I felt cold and we suddenly realised that we were in no-man's land. The good part of it was that there was nothing between you and nature.
