Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is on a two-day visit to Afghanistan. This is the first visit to the country by an Indian prime minister after Indira Gandhi's visit in 1976.

The visit is being looked as New Delhi's attempt at regaining foothold in Kabul after losing out to arch rival Pakistan during the 1990s.

Though the two-day visit will not have major agreements or memorandums signed it will give a strong signal about India's commitment to help rebuild the war-torn nation.
