How did the foundation achieve this success with such violent men?

"We managed to channel their commitment to addressing the economic, ideological, and hygienic factors that have left Bihar in dire straits," explains Bihari. "We do not operate in vacuums; we are helping them rebuild their socio-economic environment."

This approach worked so well that it is now being tried out in the Naxalite-infested areas of Andhra Pradesh.

The foundation's volunteers have brought relief to trauma victims, and peace to aggressors. "We have managed to reach out even to terrorists who believe that it is their duty to kill people," says Bihari.

"What we are doing in these areas is to empower people to a new way of life, not just a new way of conflict resolution.

"Through skilful mediation and practical stress-relieving techniques, we have been able to transform many villages in the Naxalite-infested areas in Bihar and Andhra Pradesh."

Flush with this success, the foundation turned its attention towards regions elsewhere in the world that were torn apart by conflict. A difficult task, as it was dealing with diverse cultures, religions, and attitudes.
