President A P J Abdul Kalam was one of the dignitaries to attend the celebrations.
Kalam laid the foundation stone of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Research Institute in Guru Nanak Dev University complex.
During his flight from Delhi to Amritsar, the President also wrote an ode to Guru Granth Sahib.
Shiromani Akali Dal president Prakash Singh Badal escorted the President during his visit to Harmandir Sahib.
