India's good old meteorological department, as per script, had declared heat wave conditions on May 17 when the maximum temperature in many parts of northern and western India touched 45o Celsius.

The high temperatures, arid conditions and the unbearable heat kept many indoors. But the intrepid always find a way out.

Can anyone find a better way to beat the heat than to jump into water? In villages, river ghats are most in demand. City dwellers, on the other hand, make a beeline for cooler climes, sea shores or the nearby swimming pool.

Children enjoy the high waterfall at Aquatica, a water amusement park at Hathgachia, near Kolkata.
