Regulars will tell you that not all beaches are amenable to sculpture. The main requirement is that the sand must be fine and moist. There are dedicated websites that explain how to make sand castles, or how to make better and longer lasting ones. In fact, artists are known to practise on sand before sculpting on stone.
Then there are others whose work has taken sand sculpting to the level of an art form, which is celebrated at dedicated festivals and contests around the world, like this one at Blankenberge, Belgium, earlier this month.
