Saravanan, a mechanical fitter in Southern Railway, came near and turned to show his T-shirt with the message, 'Good bye'.

"Last night, I sat and painted my emotions on my shirt. If this train had eyes, it would have seen my message. The railways has been a part and parcel of not only my life but my father's and grandfather's too," an emotional Saravanan said.

His grandfather worked in the MG sections when the British ruled India. His father worked the BG (broad gauge) section but in the same area. "When I joined, I wanted to follow my grandfather and joined the MG section. Now that something... that which was part of my family is going to be history, I cannot hold back my tears. See how hard I am trying not to cry..." he said.
