Most girls found it difficult to keep their makeup perfect in Mumbai's humid weather. Bindi, eye-liner, mascara were not as much of a problem as the foundation base that was glistening with sweat in the heat.
In the pandal, a local organisation had thoughtfully arranged for a mirror, comb and some makeup so that the girls could retouch their makeup.
One applicant said she had gone to a salon to get her long hair tied in a bun and her makeup done professionally. Her mother bought her three new saris for the interview.
