Kya scene hai!

Ace cinematographer Ravi K Chandran has made movies look brilliant through his camera -- take a look at Virasat, Dil Chahta Hai, Koi... Mil Gaya, Black, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, Ghajini... the list goes on. His most recent film, Nandita Das' Firaaq, also had some great cinematography. He takes Nithya Ramani through some of his favourite scenes down the years.

Viraasat

Scene: Amrish Puri gets humiliated at a Panchayat meeting. He goes home after that, and dies.

Why I loved the scene: The Panchayat scene was a long steady cam shot. Steady cam shots are difficult, and to get a long shot was even more difficult.

Plus, there was a huge crowd, so it was difficult to manage them. We had to rehearse the scene many times before actually shooting it, and every time the crowd would get more difficult to manage.

To top that, it was a very emotional scene. So it was tough.
