Sooni Taraporevala has penned some brilliant scripts like Mississippi Masala, The Namesake and the Oscar-nominated film, Salaam Bombay -- all directed by her close friend Mira Nair.
Now, Sooni is ready to make her own directorial debut, Little Zizou. The film stars her own children Jahan and Iyanah Baltivala in pivotal roles, along with Boman Irani, Imaad Shah and John Abraham, in a cameo.
Sooni tells Nithya Ramani what to expect from the film, releasing on March 13.
What is Little Zizou about?
It is a humourous, light-hearted film which deals with issues arising out of conflicts from a Parsi perspective. It has elements of football and a boy who believes that his dead mother will come back and bring French footballer Zinedine Zidane with her. It's about love and kids battling for mother's love.
One of the other elements is the Parsi Liberation Organisation that one of the characters starts to protect the Parsi community from converts.
Have you always wanted to direct a film?
Direction just happened. I don't choose the characters, they choose me. I have never witten scripts for myself. This is the first time. I started writing this script in June 2005.
